Descriptions (under construction)
Above the Clouds are images taken of clouds, and nothing else. The most epic cloudscapes I’ve captured happen to be taken from none other than an airplane window of course, because, like how else do you get these? It hasn’t been so long we’ve been able to peek our heads above the clouds.
Abstractions Using Light features long-exposures of light that form interesting compositions. Images from this series were photographed while driving on the highway and also while standing still. The location doesn’t matter; all that matters is the potential of light itself to form into balanced compositions.
Composited Realities takes people and objects and merges them onto other environments for a false reality. Many of these images were originally part of closed series but have since been merged to conform with this collection. Early on, compositing was always something I strived to be great at. Many of my more advanced composites can be seen at unrealconceptions.com.
Faux Planet Surfaces were taken using specialized balloons which also glowed in the dark! Lighting these images was nothing more than taking a long exposure with 2:1 macro lens. I completed this series shortly after the much more refined and consistent little planets series. The images below are a selected sample of the hundreds taken for the best overall composition. This series was created when I began to think about what undiscovered planets are still out there.
Frozen Moments in Drive are pictures I’ve taken while in a moving car. This series is about the selectional freezing of objects while passing by at high speeds, shifting two moments tied to an object passing by or in motion, off in the distance, captured by the shift of the lens.
Little Planets take the idea of the microcosm & microcosm. Microcosm means “small world,” and in the thought of the Renaissance, it was applied specifically to human beings, who were considered to be small-scale models of the universe, with all its variety and contradiction. The macrocosm aspect comes into play when you understand these were macro photographs of marbles, stacked and composited with everything in focus.
Moments in Between contains uncategorizable images between different experiences I’ve had. These photographs emphasize captured feelings rather than simply the documentation of an object or place. This series, like most of the work on this website, is best viewed at random.
On the Highway is an explorational series where all the focus is on the moments in time lost on the highway. Rather than people in cars being the focus, it’s the buildings, walkways, and light posts along the way that are in the focus. What’s lost on the highway most is a sense of time. For this reason, time is often stretched out to illustrate the moments that would not be remembered if not captured by my camera.
POV has cataloged moments I’ve stood inside, and are personal in that regard, even if completely sporadic with massive gaps in time. Times of these events mostly go back to my earlier photography explorations, where I did more urban explorations. The idea behind this collection is treasuring that brief moment of myself in a different time and place.
Slowly Wander Layers takes the idea of the unreal and merges it with the real in ways that are not necessarily convincing but rather stacked for a pseudo-three-dimensional effect. This whole series began by accident when I noticed how I could create a three-dimensional effect by simply layering multiple images together. Unlike some of my other series that deal with compositing, this one is meant to only invoke a sense of false depth for visual effect.
Aquatic Life is a series that involves fish and other underwater creatures. This series will continue to expand… There is a fascination I have with another form of life entirely. I hope to shoot underwater in the near future and add to this collection.
Mammals features horses, bears, dogs, goats, giraffes, sheep, zebras and more. I hope to travel and photograph animals in the wild using telescopic lenses in the near future. Contact me if interested in joining forces.
Reptiles & Snakes is my collection of snakes, lizards, and others like it. These creatures are cold-blooded and alien to us, which is is partially why I find collecting images of these creatures so interesting. Most of the images in this collection were captured at zoos on family trips. Locations traveled for these images are mostly from Florida on two separate trips as well as Indiana and Michigan.
Aerial City Lights at Night is a series of, for now, just one moment. I was in an airplane over a night flight and decided to take as many pictures as I could. I used a 55mm f/1.8 lens to take these images due to the amount of light needed to photography somewhat in a stable fashion.
Graphic Design on this page summarizes my experience with logo creation, business cards, poster layouts, and album design. The work on this page is configured to compliment my photography collections. Most of the photography in these designs are from my own photography.
Album & Book Design incorporates composite photography, digital painting, and graphic design techniques from client-directed designs for albums and novels.
Ancient Illustrations Revised is an illustrative body of work that blends photography, digital painting, and traditional illustrative techniques together in a way that’s vibrant and impactful for reasons beyond the photo effect itself. All works in this series are reproductions of ancient illustrations as the title implies.
Digital Paintings using Photoshop or ProCreate.
My Drawings is how I all got started in making art. Since as early as I can remember, I drew pictures. The camera has pretty much become my weapon of choice now, and I’ve transformed many of the drawing skills from my early years into the masking and digital painting skills of today.
Aerial and Driving videos are, at the time of this writing, excerpts from aspects of my graduate show film “Distribution” which feature smooth motion clips of aerial and driving footage around the city of Detroit.
Experimental Video uses frame blending and layering effects to highlight mood or concepts traditional video lacks. This is my favorite type of videography to create.
Music Videos are a combination of live jam sessions and conceptual thought pieces. I’ve also included here a highlight reel using music that best compliments visuals from my earlier photography work.
Short Films are too far and in-between, but when I was in early college I had more time on my hands to pursue creating short films. If you’re interested in working with me, contact me.
Timelapse Video is a collection of experiments really, as I slowly find time to perfect the art of motion sped up in a smooth and consistent motion. Expect more work to be populated here once I get my hands on some more motion hardware equipment.
Video Commercials are a summary of the professional 30 second to 1 minute commercials I’ve done over the years, primarily for K-12 education.
Video Documentation highlights scenes of places using smooth panning motion. Many of the scenes featured here are from when I was in graduate school experimenting with rails and machine-based motion hardware.
