I’ve decided to begin my exploration of ancient philosophical ideas and the writings of Mr. Hall through the filter of duality. From the metaphysical viewpoint, duality refers to the physical separateness of related yet opposite phenomena or modes of being. Our entire world exists in these polarities and it seems this is a good place to start.
This week I worked on completing a series I’m calling Our Space which is all about duality between heaven and earth, as far as we can see it.
I want to consider the backgrounds here, all of which I can easily swap out at this point very easily. I’m leaning more towards simplicity with skies both day and night instead of the more earthly environments like the Parthenon in Greece, from a picture I took in 2012. All of the backgrounds and pictures of fish were taken by me. The clown fish and jellyfish were taken in 2010 and 2011 on a separate trip from other aquariums.
Below is a series of work in progress.
I’m currently working on another small series related to this one and the theme of duality that will have reflections of the sky in bodies of water with objects halfway submerged. In the meantime I’ll continue to collect more photographs of skies, particularly those at night.
